This rindless, firm lactose-free cheese, made with pasteurized milk that comes mainly from farms in the Sorel-Tracy region, has a shiny surface dotted throughout with large round holes (eyes). Its ivory yellow interior is soft and elastic with a slightly sweet hazelnut aroma that intensifies with age.

Emmental Riviera has unlimited uses. In sandwiches, on a platter, baked, or—of course—in fondues, it’s always delicious!

This cheese is available from the cheese maker and in most supermarkets in the Montérégie, the greater Montreal and Quebec City.

Awards and distinctions

Formerly known as Emmental L’Alpinois, Emmental Riviera brought home first prize in its category at the Canadian Western Agribition in 2001 and the Royal Agricultural Winter Fair in 1999, and the second prize at the British Empire Dairy Show in 1998.


Accompaniments

Aromatic and supple

These medium-bodied wines offer supple tannins that of ten carry a certain roundness. They are usually dominated by aromas of ripened fruit or woody notes (toast, coffee or vanilla).
