Made of pasteurized milk from a single herd of cows owned by one of the cheese maker’s neighbours, this soft farm cheese has a bloomy white rind with a mushroom aroma. The creamy interior is encased in a rustic, tender and fluffy rind. This camembert has a pleasing, mild flavour of fresh milk. The ripening process makes for a more pronounced taste with a lasting finish.
The name Le Petit Normand is inspired by one of the two founders of La Fromagerie La Suisse Normande: Fabienne Guitel is Swiss and her husband, Frédéric Guitel, is Norman. La Suisse Normande also happens to be the name of a beautiful region in Normandy that resembles the Swiss countryside.
Le Petit Normand is available from the cheese maker, at specialty grocery stores and cheese shops, as well as in some supermarkets.
