The cheese maker crafts humorous names for its cheeses. The Italian expression Mamamia! comes from mia mamma, meaning “my mother.” The expression is used to express surprise in the same way as “My God!” Mozzarella Mamamia will surprise you when melted, because it strings out almost indefinitely. In fact, the label says “Mamamia! Ça s’étire sans bon sens” (Mamamia! It’s crazy stretchy).
